Uptake: is the deposited spray residue that is absorbed into the leaf or pest. This applies to either adjuvants or actives.
A fluorescent dye diffusing through a living leaf cuticle as
seen by confocal microscopy .
Adjuvants affect:
- Droplet spread.
- Deposit character.
- Droplet drying/hydroscopicity.
- Uptake behaviour.
Uptake is affected also by leaf cuticle character (especially leaf wax).

Formulations interact with leaf surfaces and cause variable droplet spread, leading to variable initial dose (mass per unit area) deposits of active and formulants. This can affect uptake rates.
