Advances in applications
Most of the focus has been on selection of appropriate nozzles for specific applications. This has resulted in reduced drift but enhanced capture by plant, pest or soil can still be a challenge. Additionally the focus needs to be the form and surface character of the actual target. In the case of plants, it is the introduction of a simple leaf surface characterisation method that has helped to advance fundamental and operational outcomes.
- Reducing spray volumes will change spray quality and improve retention.
- This can have undesirable effects due to higher deposit concentrations.
- This undesirable effect can be reduced or eliminated through good formulation.
- Formulations need to be tailored to target surface character.
- In the case of leaves or fruit, “surface roughness” can be easily measured.
- Surface roughness varies with leaf or plant age, species or cultivar.
